I MOVE FROM PAIN TO LOVE: January 23, 2022

In the face of the tremendous suffering of the world, there is a joy that comes from not denying the pain, but from sitting in meditation, even when it is difficult, and letting our hearts open to the experience.

LISTEN HERE TO THIS WEEK’S MEDITATION AND SUPPORT ALL MUSIC BY PURCHASING IT ON iTUNES:
“PSALM 34” – SHANE AND SHANE
“QUIETUDE,” “SONORIA,” AND “NEMI-SACRED GROVE” – PETER KATER AND R.CARLOS NAKAI
“HYMN OF THE CHERUBIM” – PYOTR ILYICH TCHAIKOVSKY
“DEEP RIVER” – THE HOWARD UNIVERSITY CHAMBER CHOIR

It is the nitty-gritty work of practice to sit here and feel your sadness and my sadness and our fear, desperation, and restlessness, to open to them and begin to learn that to love is to die to how we wanted it to be, and to open more to its truth.

To love is to accept. It is not a weakness. It is the most extraordinary power. True love is really the same as awareness.

JACK KORNFIELD

True love is to see the divine goodness, the Buddha nature, the truth of each moment, and to say, “Yes,” to allow ourselves to open, to accept. That is our practice every moment, whether in sitting meditation or action meditation.

JACK KORNFIELD

To be aware, to see the truth, frees us. It opens us to what is now, to what is here, and we see it as it is.
