As we celebrate
Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s birthday,
it is important to center
in his teachings,
which are timeless.
One of many teachings
that move me
is when he talks about
a commitment to our life’s blueprint.
The first commitment is
to have a deep belief in
who you are,
in your dignity,
worth,
and “somebody-ness.”
The second commitment
is to be determined
to achieve excellence,
to do your job so well
that the living, the dead
and the unborn
can’t do it any better.
The third commitment
is to beauty,
love,
and justice.
